Calp(e) and surroundings at a glance

Calp (or Calpe) is a pleasant seaside town on the Costa Blanca with 2 beautiful sandy beaches (La Fossa and Arenal-Bol). The city of approximately 30,000 inhabitants is located on the east coast of Spain, between the airports of Alicante (about 75 km from Calpe, 3/4h by car) and Valencia (about 110 km, 1h by car). Calpe is known for its wonderful climate, with little precipitation, mild winters (average temperature of 15 degrees), warm summers (average temperature of 27 degrees) and therefore very popular with winter visitors. The "eye-catcher" is the 332 meter high rock with nature reserve ("El peñon de Ifach"), which is strongly present halfway Calpe. Other great sights are the marina and fishing port, the old Moorish town (with nice restaurants and tapas bars) and the salt lake with flamingos.

Due to its central location, Calpe is also an ideal base for nearby places such as Altea, Moraira, Javea, Denia, Benidorm, Xalo (known antique market on Saturdays), Guadelest (castle and reservoir) and the cultural city of Valencia. The hinterland is characterized by several hills, with the Col de Bernia and Col des Rates being the most famous among cycling enthusiasts.
